Huduma centres simplify birth and death certificate registration

Kenyans can now book appointments online for birth and death certificate services at Huduma Centres, reducing long queues. The digital system lets users select convenient dates and times. This update makes essential document registration more accessible nationwide.

For years, Kenyans have faced long queues when registering birth and death certificates at Huduma Centres. A new online appointment system now streamlines this, allowing bookings via appointment.hudumakenya.go.ke on mobile or computer. Users register, receive SMS credentials, log in, select a date and time, then visit the Huduma Centre GPO as scheduled.

Birth certificates prove Kenyan citizenship for children, essential for national exams, ID cards at 18, and passports. Parents or guardians of newborns apply at any Huduma Centre or Civil Registration offices, submitting a birth notification and parents' IDs—or death certificates if parents are deceased. Fees are Ksh60 without changes, Ksh100 for child's name amendments, Ksh100 for parents' names, and Ksh140 for both. The Civil Registration Department processes applications in 10 days.

Death certificate registration requires Form D4, plus the original burial permit or death notification and the deceased's national ID at the nearest Huduma Centre. Standard fees are Ksh50, rising to Ksh130 with amendments. Processing takes two days, aiding urgent family matters. Rescue centres and children's homes can apply for abandoned or orphaned minors.

For inquiries, contact the Huduma Contact Centre at +254 (020) 6900020 or visit the Civil Registration Department at Hass Plaza, 4th Floor, Lower Hill Road, Nairobi. Email: crvs@interior.go.ke.
