Mbeere North residents complain over removal of electricity transformers

Residents of Mbeere North constituency in Embu County have complained about the removal of electricity transformers eight months after connection under the Last Mile Connectivity Programme.

Residents said they received electricity for the first time during the by-election held on November 27, 2025. Faith Kithaka of Muramba village said Kenya Power and Lighting Company officials removed transformers two weeks earlier.

The residents claimed the move has returned them to using candles and kerosene lamps. Julius Njeru of Rwanjeru village said businesses and children's studies have been affected.

Member of Parliament Leo Wamuthende denied the claims and said KPLC is carrying out routine maintenance. Embu County KPLC Manager Vincent Okello said three transformers were damaged and sent to Nairobi for repair.
