More than 18 million domestic visitors toured tourist destinations in Ethiopia's Amhara Region in the 2018 budget year.
The Amhara Culture, Tourism and Sport Bureau head Melkamu Tsegaye said 58,000 foreign visitors also viewed the sites during the year. The visitors generated more than 11 billion birr in revenue.
The bureau carried out 41 access development works on heritage sites. Nine museums are included among them. The regional government allocated over 111 million birr for the projects.
In addition, 19 stolen artifacts were returned to the country. Plans aim to attract over 100,000 foreign visitors in the 2019 budget year.
