Among the Harari people, the festival is celebrated six days after Eid al-Fitr, marking joy, love, and social harmony through religious and cultural events, festivals, Awde Riiy performances, and community initiatives. It follows the guiding principle: “Shuwaliid for our national unity and tourism development.”

The Ministry of Tourism issued a congratulatory message on the UNESCO inscription, stating it is “one of the prominent cultural practices among the Harari people.” The ministry noted that Harar, with its traditional attire, colorful costumes, and Harari hospitality, attracts domestic and international visitors. It affirmed ongoing efforts to position Harar as a key tourist destination.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen said Shuwaliid makes Harar shine like a star in the Harari colorful culture. The recognition promotes Ethiopia's ancient heritage and cultural wealth on the global stage.
