ArenaNet has issued a mission statement for Guild Wars 3, confirming no subscription fees or pay-to-win elements. Studio head Colin Johanson outlined four pillars for the upcoming MMO following its debut at Summer Game Fest.
ArenaNet posted the statement titled "Our Guild Wars Philosophy" on the official Guild Wars 3 website. It was written by studio head Colin Johanson.
The document stresses a buy-to-play model without subscriptions, battle passes, or seasonal tracks. Microtransactions will be limited to cosmetics, and the game aims to respect player time by avoiding second-job requirements.
Johanson noted that the MMO landscape has changed since the earlier Guild Wars titles. The new game will blend instanced gameplay from the first entry with open-world elements from the second.
A beta is meant to release at the tail-end of 2027. The studio is seeking early player feedback on the project.
