A 29-year-old Florida woman has been charged with child neglect after leaving a child she was babysitting alone overnight. The child later tested positive for THC and sought help from a neighbor.
Maribel Plaza was arrested on June 19 after police responded to a report at UF Health Hospital in Leesburg. A neighbor had taken the child there around 1:30 a.m. after the child knocked on their door at 1 a.m., appearing weak and sick.
The child told officers that Plaza had left around 10 p.m. the previous night. A family member confirmed over a video call that Plaza was the only adult responsible while the family was in Georgia.
Plaza admitted to police that she went to her boyfriend's house. She said she had placed CBD oil and THC gummies in areas accessible to the child. Plaza posted a $5,000 bond and is due in court on July 13.
