A city bus crashed into a tree at Bantorget in Lund on Wednesday. Nine people were injured and five of them were taken to hospital with mild injuries. The driver, a man in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of gross drug driving.
The accident occurred during the lunch rush. The bus had passengers on board and witnesses said it was travelling at high speed before hitting the tree.
Police classify the case as gross negligence in traffic, gross drug driving and causing bodily harm. Region Skåne confirms the injured are four men and one young woman.
Witnesses described a loud bang. One person said the bus flew forward and the rear lifted several metres. The area was cordoned off but restrictions were lifted later after the bus was towed.
