Two men in their twenties from Luleå died when a passenger car left Road 720 near Mörtträsk in Kalix municipality on Sunday afternoon.
The crash occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to rescue services the car had left the road and ended up some distance into the forest. Police, ambulance and rescue services were called to the scene and police deployed a helicopter along with several patrols.
Police classify the incident as gross negligence in traffic. It remains unclear what caused the crash. Relatives have been notified and police are providing no further details.
In total five people have died in traffic accidents during the Midsummer weekend. In addition to the two in Kalix this includes an elderly couple in their eighties who died outside Borås on Friday and a motorcyclist who died in Huddinge during the night to Saturday.
