Nagtatag ang Department of Agriculture ng food security task force upang bantayan at tugunan ang mga abalang sa suplay, presyo, at kalakalan ng agrikultura dahil sa energy emergency at geopolitical tensions. Ayon kay DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., papalitan nito ang dating ad hoc na monitoring system.
Sinabi ni Tiu Laurel na gagawin ng task force ang daily briefings tungkol sa food situation ng bansa, na ibabahagi sa Congress at Office of the President. "Since the start of the war, we’ve been operating on an ad hoc basis. Now we are formalizing the task force so reports are standardized and more detailed, enabling faster and better decision-making," aniya.
Bibigyang-pansin ng grupo ang epekto ng disrupted shipping routes sa Middle East, na nakakaapekto sa mga eksportasyon tulad ng saging at pinya. Nagdudulot ito ng "opportunity losses" para sa mga exporter na maaaring mag-redirect sa ibang merkado sa mas mababang presyo, ayon sa kalihim.
Nag-uugnayan ang DA sa financial institutions tulad ng Land Bank of the Philippines upang tulungan ang mga exporter. Sinusuri rin ang alternative markets sa Africa, Australia, Europe, at Southeast Asia, bagamat may logistical challenges.
Una itong gagana sa loob ng DA upang i-consolidate ang impormasyon at magbigay ng timely data sa policymakers. "The task force is about more than just food supply – it’s about safeguarding our economy and ensuring that both producers and consumers are shielded from shocks," dagdag ni Tiu Laurel.
