Allsvenskan derby between Örgryte and IFK Göteborg was halted on Monday evening after disturbances and a fire in the stands. The match, which IFK led 2–1, is set to resume Tuesday afternoon behind closed doors.
The match at Gamla Ullevi was interrupted twice in the first half. A fire broke out on the blue-and-white away stand, and a police officer was taken to hospital with smoke injuries. Police in Västra Götaland have opened an investigation into arson and endangering others.
Organizers, the referee and police agreed not to continue. Per Svärd, the Swedish Football Association match delegate, told TV4: "Both organizers, referees and police are unanimous that the match should not continue."
IFK Göteborg had taken the lead with goals from August Erlingmark and 17-year-old Benjamin Brantlind. William Hofvander pulled one back for Örgryte. The derby was the first Allsvenskan meeting between the sides in 17 years and began with ten minutes of silence in protest against increased police presence.
The plan is to resume the derby on Tuesday at 15:00 in front of empty stands. Örgryte coach Andreas Holmberg called the incident "so damn sad".
