Swedish defenseman Eric Martinsson will remain in Germany's DEL league after signing a contract extension with Schwenninger Wild Wings. The 33-year-old will not return to the SHL for the 2026/27 season.
Martinsson joined Schwenninger last season after leaving Växjö Lakers. He has now agreed to stay with the club for another year.
Club official Stefan Wagner highlighted Martinsson's contributions. "We were determined to keep Eric with us after his performances and considering his qualities," Wagner said. "He had an important role in our team both on and off the ice."
Martinsson expressed satisfaction with the decision. "Last year was good for the club but we all want to achieve even more," he said. "I am very happy to be back for another round and to help the team win matches and hopefully have an even better season."
The veteran has previously played for Rögle, HV71 and Växjö, winning two Swedish championships with the latter club. He has also represented the Swedish national team.
