Ethiopia's Standards Institute has approved 66 standards submitted in the construction and civil engineering sector. Of these, 64 relate to construction while two concern food. The standards promote quality, safety, and trade facilitation.
Addis Ababa. The Ethiopian Standards Institute's board approved 66 standards submitted for the construction and civil engineering practice sector during its fifth regular session on Miyazya 9, 2018 E.C. Sixty-four of these standards fall under construction and civil engineering, with two selected as food sector standards.
One food standard guides the fortification of staple foods with folic acid to prevent health risks during the wheat harvest season. Ato Buruk Habte, the institute's public relations and communication head, stated that the approved standards have been evaluated for quality, human and animal safety, environmental protection, and trade facilitation benefits.
These standards align with international trade requirements, enhancing competitiveness and ensuring quality control for imports. The institute urged manufacturers and importers to apply them to improve product quality, facilitate safe exports and imports, and contribute to the national economy and consumer safety. It offers information, training, and technical support services, with documents available at its Documentation Center.
