The Hong Kong government has appointed former deputy police commissioner Albert Yuen Yuk-kin to head the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
Albert Yuen Yuk-kin will assume the role on Tuesday following his retirement from the Hong Kong Police Force after more than 37 years. He joined the force in 1986 as an inspector and rose to deputy commissioner of operations, with expertise in criminal intelligence, serious crime, triad operations, and commercial crime.
The appointment fills one of two high-level positions announced through open recruitment in February. Both roles, including director of information services, went to individuals with police backgrounds as part of ongoing civil service reforms.
The government made the announcement on Monday.
