Equality minister Nina Larsson (L) presented a legislative proposal on Monday for digital bans preventing those convicted of grooming children online from accessing social media.
The Liberals’ proposal aims to bar convicted groomers from platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. Nina Larsson stressed during her visit to Umeå that many people sentenced for these crimes currently face no digital consequences.
– Many who groom children and are convicted of it receive no digital consequences, she said.
The bill would allow police to conduct spot checks and improve follow-up. Larsson described it as an important signal to those who commit crimes against children and young people.
Several cases of online sexual offences have been reported in Umeå over the past year, including charges against an 18-year-old linked to the 764 group involving 77 counts.
