Lime started a 60-day pilot deploying up to 1,000 electric scooters in Mexico City, backed by SEMOVI and active since June 10.
The initiative aims to expand sustainable transport options in the capital, particularly with more visitors arriving for international sports events. Deployment is gradual and focused on strategic areas to connect with mass transit systems.
Lime exited the Mexican market in 2019 and returns with an updated platform. Johann Schmidt, the company’s regional director of government relations, said the model seeks to promote sustainable transport and ease travel for residents and visitors.
The program incorporates safety measures such as foot patrols and designated parking zones. It also includes road safety education activations with helmet distribution to encourage orderly use.
