Nagkakaloob si Marcos ng Order of Lakandula kay yumaong DMW secretary Toots Ople

Nagkaloob si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ng Order of Lakandula na may ranggong Grand Cross sa yumaong kalihim ng Department of Migrant Workers na si Maria Susana “Toots” Ople. Inilarawan niya ito bilang isang kahanga-hangang lingkod bayan at isa sa pinakamahusay na taong kanyang nakilala. Ang seremonya ay naganap sa Malacañang kahapon, kasabay ng anibersaryo ng kamatayan ng pambansang bayani na si Jose Rizal.

Sa seremonya sa Malacañang, binigyang-pugay ni Pangulong Marcos ang mga prinsipyong inilagay ni Ople para sa mga overseas Filipino workers o OFW. “The moment she got into government, again, she laid the groundwork. Everything that we are doing now, all of the successes that you see, she laid the groundwork for that,” ani Marcos. Si Ople ay naupo bilang kalihim noong 2022 at namatay noong Agosto 22, 2023 sa edad na 61 taon matapos makipaglaban sa breast cancer.

Sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Ople, pumasok ang Pilipinas sa 42 bilateral agreements sa 25 bansa. Itinatag din niya ang One Repatriation Command Center at ang Overseas Filipino Workers Hospital. Naglunsad din siya ng Department of Migrant Workers mobile application at ng OFW Pass.

Inihalintulad ni Marcos si Ople kay Rizal, na naniniwala na ang pagmamahal sa bayan ay ipinapahayag sa pamamagitan ng tapang, disiplina at serbisyo. “In the middle of a great trial, she did not abandon her duty to the nation... She fought while she could. Until the end, she served,” sabi niya. “She knew the sand in her hourglass was beginning to run low, yet she gave what little time she had left to ensure that our Filipino migrant workers would continue to be protected, even after she is gone.”

Idinagdag pa niya, “She is one of the best people that I have ever met in my life.” Patuloy na sinusunod ng gobyerno ang mga prinsipyo ni Ople para sa proteksyon ng mga OFW.
