Walang pagtaas ng tuition sa mga kolehiyo at unibersidad para sa school year 2026-2027 sa gitna ng energy crisis dahil sa digmaan sa Gitnang Silangan, ayon sa CHED chairperson Shirley Agrupis noong Martes.
Sa press conference, sinabi ni Agrupis na natanggap nila maraming kahilingan para sa pagtaas ng tuition at iba pang bayarin. "We have received a lot of requests (for tuition and other fee increases). But we only have one answer. While we recognize the increasing needs of a higher education institution (HEI), we are appealing that this is not the right time to increase tuition," aniya.
Naglabas na ng Executive Order 110 si Pangulong Marcos na nagdedeklara ng 'state of national energy emergency' at nag-utos ng whole-of-government approach upang mabawasan ang epekto sa mga sektor.
Naintindihan na ng mga HEI ang desisyon, at nagpaplano ng meeting ang CHED. Natapos na rin ang harmonization ng tuition at fees sa state universities and colleges, na ipresenta na sa Department of Budget and Management batay sa Republic Act 10931 o Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
Pinahintulutan ng CHED na magsagawa ng flexible learning ang mga HEI, kabilang ang hanggang 100 porsyentong online classes kung kinakailangan. "We really thank our HEI leaders because they really adhered to our call that we leave to their wisdom to determine the readiness and the capacity of the university without sacrificing the expected quality outcome that we want to implement," dagdag ni Agrupis. Layunin nito ang academic continuity habang pinoprotektahan ang kapakanan ng estudyante.
