The National Disaster Management Agency reported one resident killed by a magnitude 6.7 earthquake that struck Central Sulawesi on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
The quake was centered on land at coordinates 1.03 degrees South Latitude and 120.24 degrees East Longitude at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was about 42 kilometers southeast of Palu City.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency stated the quake was triggered by activity on the Sausu Fault and was a shallow quake with a normal fault mechanism. It posed no tsunami threat.
As of 7:00 p.m. WIB, BNPB recorded 312 people or 110 households affected, including 22 residents with minor injuries and 13 with serious injuries in Sigi Regency. A total of 67 houses suffered damage across several areas.
Data is still being verified and updated by field officers. BMKG recorded aftershock activity around the main quake location.
