Several low-magnitude earthquakes recorded across Chile on Sunday

The National Seismological Center reported eleven seismic events on Sunday, June 14, across various parts of the country, with magnitudes ranging from 3.0 to 4.4.

The strongest quake reached magnitude 4.4 at 18:54 local time, centered 19 kilometers west of Quintero at a depth of 28 kilometers. Other events included a magnitude 4.0 near Socaire and several magnitude 3.0 to 3.7 quakes around Carrizal Bajo, Curicó and Mina Collahuasi.

The National Seismological Center of the University of Chile recorded all movements, most at depths from 20 to 272 kilometers. Chile sits at the boundary of the Nazca and South American plates, producing frequent seismic activity.

The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (SENAPRED) reiterated basic safety steps: stay calm, shelter under a sturdy object, shut off electricity and gas, and move away from buildings if outdoors.
