Posthumous Ed Askew album set for July release

Drag City will release a new posthumous album by the late folk singer and artist Ed Askew on July 31. The Final Painting draws from demos recorded between 2020 and his death in January 2025.

The album was produced by Jerry David DeCicca, who previously worked with Askew on the 2013 release For the World. It includes contributions from several musicians, with Sharon Van Etten providing backing vocals on the track Gray Air-o-Plane and Bill Callahan appearing on Someone. William Tyler and Eve Searls also feature on the record.
