The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 1-0 on Tuesday night at Progressive Field, extending their AL winning streak to six games. Rays pitcher Nick Martinez tossed seven scoreless innings, limiting Cleveland to three hits. The loss spoiled the major league debut of Guardians second baseman Travis Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Nick Martinez made his 135th career start and kept the Rays rolling through the American League. He allowed just three hits over seven-plus innings, improving Tampa Bay to 13-1 against AL opponents this season. The Rays have now won 13 straight games versus AL teams since a loss to Minnesota on April 3 and a franchise-record 10 in a row against AL Central clubs, including this shutout of Cleveland. Cole Sulser earned his first save by striking out pinch-hitter George Valera with runners on base in the ninth.
