Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu implemented temporary road closures on Friday, May 8, to host the 48th Asean Leaders’ Summit.
Several roads around Mactan Cebu International Airport and resort areas in Barangays Maribago, Mactan, and Punta Engaño were restricted at scheduled intervals throughout the day. These measures supported security protocols and convoy movements for delegates attending the regional gathering.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan stated that the organizers followed standard international security protocols. “Ang mga organizers nagpatuman og mga lakang nga gikinahanglan ug angay lamang ipatuman, subay sa standard international security protocols nga gigamit usab sa matag nasud nga nag-abiabi og mga lider sa kalibutan,” she said.
The summit formally opened with a ceremony in the morning. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was scheduled to hold a press conference at the International Media Center at 4 p.m., while First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos was set to host a gala dinner in the evening.
