The Seoul International Book Fair opens Wednesday with about 150,000 visitors expected. The event explores humanity in the age of AI and features publishers from 18 nations.
The Seoul International Book Fair runs through Sunday at the COEX exhibition center in southern Seoul. The 68th edition includes 538 publishers and industry organizations from 18 nations along with 326 authors and speakers. Advance tickets have sold out.
Under the theme "Homo Duduri," the fair examines what it means to be human in the age of artificial intelligence. Korean novelist Kim Yeon-su wrote in a theme statement co-authored with AI models Claude and Gemini: "AI closes the door of possibility with the most probable answer. Humans reopen that door with a greater question."
France serves as the guest country of honor to mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties with South Korea. French participants include novelist Bernard Werber. Seminars on publishing challenges amid the AI boom are also scheduled.
