Sigrid discusses blending pop and rock at Mad Cool 2026

Norwegian singer Sigrid spoke to NME backstage at Mad Cool 2026 about her evolving sound and festival experiences. She reflected on touring her 2025 album and recent listening habits. The interview took place ahead of her performance at the Madrid event.

Sigrid told NME she has spent the last decade making music that sits between pop and rock. She described drawing inspiration from Scandi indie pop and French music for her latest record while adding more guitars than before.

The artist mentioned recent listens including Turnstile’s ‘Never Enough’ and Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love’. She also kept Holly Humberstone’s ‘Cruel World’ and TOMORA’s ‘Come Closer’ on repeat.

Sigrid noted the honour of sharing the bill with acts such as Halsey, Pixies, Interpol and Kings of Leon on the festival’s rock-focused day. She added that crowds have even moshed to her ballads during past shows.
