USO starts mobilizations amid Ecopetrol contract talks

The Unión Sindical Obrera announced mobilization days starting May 20 to back negotiations for a new collective agreement with Ecopetrol. The actions aim to defend decent employment and labor stability.

The USO, led by Martín Ravelo, called on its subdirectives to hold informational rallies, sit-ins, permanent assemblies and turtle plans. These measures respond to the negotiation process covering direct workers and contractors.

The union noted that labor costs represent about 5% of Ecopetrol’s total operational expenses. It stated that payroll does not exceed the company’s cost structure and asked for talks to proceed with a perspective of rights progressivity.

Key focuses include defense of decent employment, conventional guarantees and protection of public assets and energy sovereignty. Ecopetrol reported 2.8 trillion pesos in profits for the first quarter of 2026.
