Des militants s'inquiètent d'un projet de Royal Caribbean à Cozumel

Des militants et des résidents de Cozumel dénoncent le projet « Royal Beach Club Cozumel » de Royal Caribbean, affirmant qu'il vise à privatiser la dernière plage publique de l'ouest de l'île.

Suite au rejet par la Semarnat du projet « Perfect Day » à Mahahual le 19 mai dernier, des militants ont lancé une pétition sur Change.org qui a recueilli plus de 36 000 signatures. La pétition affirme que le nouveau club de plage situé dans la Zona Hotelera Sur menace le libre accès à Playa Mía et nuira aux entreprises locales. Royal Caribbean a indiqué que le projet comprendrait des piscines et des restaurants destinés aux passagers des navires de croisière. L'entreprise a déclaré que l'accès actuel resterait ouvert et que la construction ne débuterait qu'une fois toutes les autorisations environnementales obtenues. Ari Adler Brotman, président de Royal Caribbean México, a affirmé que l'objectif est de garantir l'accès à la plage pour tous, conformément à la législation mexicaine.
