Nachdem Semarnat am 19. Mai das Projekt Perfect Day in Mahahual abgelehnt hatte, starteten Aktivisten eine Change.org-Petition, die mehr als 36.000 Unterschriften gesammelt hat. Die Petition besagt, dass der neue Strandclub in der Zona Hotelera Sur den freien Zugang zu Playa Mía bedroht und lokalen Unternehmen schaden wird. Royal Caribbean erklärte, dass das Projekt Pools und Restaurants für Kreuzfahrtpassagiere umfassen werde. Das Unternehmen betonte, dass der aktuelle Zugang offen bleiben werde und der Bau erst nach Erhalt aller Umweltgenehmigungen beginnen werde. Ari Adler Brotman, Präsident von Royal Caribbean México, sagte, das Ziel sei es, den Strandzugang für alle im Einklang mit dem mexikanischen Gesetz zu gewährleisten.
