La construction du projet ferroviaire Awash-Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya a repris après une longue interruption causée par des dommages et des pillages lors du conflit dans le nord du pays.La ligne de 392 kilomètres a été initialement lancée en 2007 selon le calendrier éthiopien et devait être achevée en 2012. Les autorités affirment que l'achèvement du projet rationalisera les systèmes commerciaux et générera d'importantes opportunités d'emploi.La cérémonie de relance a vu la participation de la présidente du Conseil de la région Amhara, Fantu Tesfaye, de l'administrateur régional adjoint, le Dr Abdu Hussen, ainsi que d'autres hauts responsables régionaux.
