La Direction de l'application des lois (Enforcement Directorate) a arrêté jeudi le commissaire adjoint de la police de Kolkata, Shantanu Sinha Biswas, dans le cadre d'une affaire de blanchiment d'argent liée à des allégations d'accaparement de terres.

Les fonctionnaires de l'ED l'ont interrogé pendant plusieurs heures avant de procéder à son arrestation. Biswas a auparavant occupé le poste d'officier responsable au commissariat de police de Kalighat.

L'agence avait émis plusieurs convocations dans l'affaire Sona Pappu, auxquelles il ne s'est pas présenté. Un avis de recherche avait été émis pour l'empêcher de quitter le pays.

Des documents récupérés auprès de l'homme d'affaires arrêté, Joy Kamdar, ont révélé des transactions financières impliquant Biswas. Il devrait être présenté devant un tribunal ce vendredi.
