La Haute Cour de Delhi a annulé un rapport d'information (FIR) déposé par l'Economic Offences Wing en 2020 ainsi que les procédures connexes de l'Enforcement Directorate à l'encontre du portail d'information NewsClick et de son fondateur Prabir Purkayastha.

La juge Neena Bansal Krishna a statué mercredi que les infractions de fraude, d'abus de confiance et d'association de malfaiteurs n'étaient pas caractérisées. La cour a déclaré que la poursuite de l'enquête ouverte le 26 août 2020 constituait un abus manifeste de procédure judiciaire. Le rapport d'information alléguait des violations des normes sur les investissements directs étrangers (IDE) dans les fonds reçus par PPK NewsClick Studio Private Limited de la part de Worldwide Media Holdings LLC au cours de la période 2018-2019. L'Enforcement Directorate avait engagé des poursuites en vertu de la loi sur la prévention du blanchiment d'argent le 2 septembre 2020, sur la base de ce rapport. Après le verdict, Prabir Purkayastha a déclaré : « Ce jugement confirme ce que nous avons toujours soutenu. » La cour a noté l'absence de partie lésée concernant l'accusation de fraude et a souligné que la Reserve Bank of India n'avait constaté aucune irrégularité.
