Elon Musk devra installer des bureaux de X au Kenya d'ici trois mois, selon le ministre Kabogo

Le ministre kényan des TIC, William Kabogo, a déclaré au Sénat que X doit ouvrir des bureaux dans le pays sous trois mois pour conserver ses licences d'exploitation temporaires.

L'annonce a été faite le 13 mai lors d'une audition au Sénat par M. Kabogo, qui a précisé que ces licences avaient été accordées à la condition que la plateforme établisse une présence locale. M. Kabogo a expliqué aux législateurs que cette exigence s'inscrit dans le cadre d'efforts plus larges visant à responsabiliser les plateformes mondiales face aux contenus préjudiciables et à protéger les mineurs. Il a ajouté que la présence de bureaux au Kenya permettrait aux autorités d'appliquer directement les lois locales. L'Autorité des communications a également reçu le pouvoir de suspendre les plateformes qui enfreignent la réglementation, a précisé M. Kabogo, citant TikTok, Meta et X parmi celles qui font déjà l'objet d'une surveillance. Cette décision fait suite à un rapport du Conseil des médias du Kenya révélant que 39 % des Kényans utilisent désormais les réseaux sociaux pour s'informer, ce qui en fait leur première source d'actualités.
