Government appoints delegation to review ADHD in youth

The government has decided to appoint a delegation to investigate reasons for the rise in ADHD and autism diagnoses among children and young people. The group will also propose improvements to support in several areas.

Social Minister Jakob Forssmed presented the decision at a press conference. He stressed that children and young people with neurodevelopmental diagnoses need better conditions to reach their potential and develop.

The background is a sharp increase in diagnoses that is clearly visible in child and adolescent psychiatry. The delegation will examine how support can be strengthened in school, healthcare, leisure activities and entry to the labor market.

Mathias Wahlsten, director general at the Swedish Unemployment Insurance Inspectorate, will lead the work. The results are to be reported on 1 December 2027.
