Le gouverneur Gustavo Melella a signé un décret pour opposer son veto à la loi visant à stopper la réforme constitutionnelle provinciale. Il maintient la convocation des élections conventionnelles au 9 août malgré le rejet de la législature.

La législature de la Terre de Feu avait abrogé la loi 1529 par un vote de 11 contre 4 quelques semaines plus tôt. La norme, approuvée en décembre 2023, promouvait des modifications à 70 articles de la Constitution provinciale.

Melella avait convoqué les élections conventionnelles un jour avant ce vote. Vendredi, il a officialisé le veto par décret, arguant que le processus était déjà en cours avec la majorité qualifiée requise.

Le ministre Jorge Canals a déclaré que la décision législative est inconstitutionnelle car elle altère un processus lié aux droits constitutionnels. Le veto sera renvoyé à la législature, où 10 voix sont nécessaires pour le rejeter.

L'opposition, menée par le maire Walter Vuoto, a critiqué cette décision et accusé le gouverneur d'ignorer le message de la société et du parlement dans un contexte économique complexe.
