Le Kenya mène des exercices de lutte contre les marées noires à Lamu avant le début de la production en décembre

Le gouvernement a terminé cette semaine quatre jours de formation sur les marées noires à Lamu, dans le cadre des préparatifs pour la production commerciale de pétrole prévue pour décembre 2026.

La formation a été dirigée par le projet du corridor de transport Lamu-Soudan du Sud-Éthiopie. Elle était axée sur la protection de l'environnement, la prévention, la préparation et l'intervention pour le personnel manipulant les cargaisons de pétrole. Ali Shee, officier de liaison du bureau régional de Lamu, a déclaré que cet exercice reflète un engagement envers un développement responsable des infrastructures et la gestion environnementale. Les exercices visent à protéger les écosystèmes côtiers et les moyens de subsistance des communautés dans la région. Le secrétaire de cabinet à l'Énergie et au Pétrole, Opiyo Wandayi, a annoncé le 5 mai 2026 que la production du bassin de South Lokichar devrait commencer avant la fin de l'année. Le Kenya construit un pipeline de 890 kilomètres reliant Turkana à Lamu pour soutenir les exportations.
