Kenia führt vor Beginn der Ölförderung im Dezember Übungen für Ölunfälle in Lamu durch

Die Regierung hat in dieser Woche eine viertägige Schulung für den Fall von Ölunfällen in Lamu abgeschlossen, um sich auf die für Dezember 2026 erwartete kommerzielle Ölförderung vorzubereiten.

Die Schulung wurde vom Projekt Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport Corridor geleitet. Der Schwerpunkt lag auf dem Umweltschutz, der Prävention sowie der Vorbereitung und Reaktion für das Personal, das mit Öltransporten befasst ist.

Ali Shee, Verbindungsbeamter des Regionalbüros in Lamu, sagte, die Übung spiegele das Engagement für eine verantwortungsvolle Infrastrukturentwicklung und den Umweltschutz wider. Die Übungen zielen darauf ab, die Küstenökosysteme und die Lebensgrundlagen der Gemeinde in der Region zu schützen.

Der Minister für Energie und Erdöl, Opiyo Wandayi, kündigte am 5. Mai 2026 an, dass die Förderung im South-Lokichar-Becken voraussichtlich vor Ende des Jahres beginnen wird. Kenia baut eine 890 Kilometer lange Pipeline von Turkana nach Lamu, um die Exporte zu unterstützen.
