Lenny Kaye annonce son premier album solo, Goin’ Local

Lenny Kaye, guitariste de longue date du Patti Smith Group, s'apprête à sortir son premier album solo, Goin’ Local, le 17 juillet chez Yep Roc Records. À 79 ans, Kaye a collaboré avec Patti Smith sur un titre intitulé « Solstice » et a travaillé avec des musiciens tels que Matthew Shipp et Tim Carbone. Dans un communiqué de presse, il décrit cet album comme un nouveau départ.

Lenny Kaye, connu pour avoir compilé la collection originale Nuggets et pour son rôle au sein du Patti Smith Group, s'aventure en solo avec Goin’ Local. L'album comprend des contributions du pianiste de jazz Matthew Shipp, de Tim Carbone de Railroad Earth, de John Jackson des Jayhawks et de David Mansfield. Kaye a coécrit « Solstice » avec Patti Smith, sa partenaire de longue date au sein du groupe. Un avant-goût du morceau-titre est disponible avant la sortie officielle le 17 juillet sur le label Yep Roc Records. Dans un communiqué, Kaye a confié : « J'ai l'impression d'être un nouvel artiste. Je pense que cet album surprendra ceux qui pensent me connaître à travers ce que j'ai fait auparavant. » Il a expliqué le titre en déclarant : « J'ai toujours aimé ce qui est local, son intimité et sa camaraderie… Je pense que le véritable sens de "Goin’ Local" est le privilège de pouvoir plonger dans ma propre tête et d'entendre ce que je m'inspire à moi-même. » Ce projet fait suite aux mémoires de Kaye publiés en 2022, Lightning Striking: Ten Transformative Moments in Rock and Roll. Kaye entamera bientôt une tournée aux États-Unis avec Dave Alvin et Jimmie Dale Gilmore, avec notamment des concerts à Easton, dans le Maryland, le 25 avril et à New York le 29 avril. Plus tard, il rejoindra Patti Smith lors du festival CBGB 2026.
