Le conseil régional d'Arica et Parinacota a approuvé un investissement de 3,292 milliards de pesos pour entamer l'éradication du campement de Cerro Chuño. La mesure prévoit la démolition des fondations de 220 habitations lors d'une première phase.

Lors d'une session extraordinaire tenue ce mercredi, le conseil régional d'Arica et Parinacota a approuvé par neuf voix pour, quatre contre et deux abstentions l'allocation de 3,292 milliards de pesos pour lancer le plan. La proposition présentée par le gouverneur Diego Paco comprend la démolition des fondations de cinq îlots de Cerro Chuño, touchant 220 maisons.

Le plan complet, articulé en quatre étapes, nécessitera 10 milliards de pesos, les fonds restants devant être fournis par le gouvernement central. M. Paco a souligné que cette action répond à une demande de la communauté et a noté que le gouvernement précédent n'avait démoli aucune maison.

Dans cette phase initiale, environ 700 personnes seront expulsées, dont 74 pour cent sont des étrangers. Le délégué présidentiel régional, Cristian Sayes, a expliqué que le processus sera accompagné par l'Institut national des droits de l'homme, le Défenseur des enfants et la Cour des comptes afin d'assurer une gestion appropriée.
