The Han River Flood Control Office lifted a flood warning for Imjin Bridge at 5:30 a.m. on July 22 after water levels began to recede.

The water level at Imjin Bridge stood at 7.72 meters as of 6 a.m. It had peaked above 11 meters the previous day before falling overnight. The level at Pilseung Bridge measured 6.06 meters.

The Environment Ministry attributed the sharp rise to North Korea's release of water from the Hwanggang Dam without prior notice. Satellite imagery taken Monday confirmed the discharge.

A Unification Ministry official urged North Korea to respond jointly to natural disasters in a responsible manner. North Korea agreed in 2009 to notify the South in advance of any dam releases.

Heavy monsoon rains across South Korea have left one person missing and damaged more than 450 facilities, authorities said Friday.

Heavy overnight rains on July 18 flooded homes and roads across the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon province, resulting in 540 cases of property damage with no reported casualties.

Heavy rain fell across Gangwon Province and southern regions of South Korea on Saturday, leading authorities to restrict access to mountain trails and disrupting a local festival.

Heavy rains pushed the Kouga Dam to 119.2 percent capacity on Thursday morning, sending water over the spillway at a rate of 2.2 million litres per second. The sudden rise from 32 percent the day before forced evacuations in the Gamtoos River valley and flooded farms in the Eastern Cape.
