UDI president Guillermo Ramírez defended Minister Trinidad Steinert and announced that the government will unveil a roadmap with concrete measures during the public account on June 1.

Ramírez took part in a UDI council meeting and backed the government’s timeline for drafting the security plan. He explained that President José Antonio Kast will announce proposals on drug trafficking, organized crime, migration and prisons.

The party leader said the administration spent its first months conducting a detailed diagnosis of the border and prison situation. Legislative bills will be submitted to Congress starting June 2.

Socialist Party senator Paulina Vodanovic called Steinert’s remarks about lacking a structured plan “incomprehensible.” She demanded concrete actions and warned that the public account will mark a turning point for the opposition.

President José Antonio Kast's government has delayed entry of its controversial 'National Reconstruction Plan'—recently renamed the 'economic reactivation reform'—into Congress until next week. Initially announced in March with an expected April 1 entry, the postponement allows final reviews and shifts focus to school security following a deadly incident in Calama.

Paulina Vodanovic, president of the Socialist Party, criticized Security Minister Trinidad Steinert's lack of strategy and the government's economic megareform. UDI president Guillermo Ramírez defended Steinert, calling her statements reasonable. The criticisms arise 50 days into José Antonio Kast's government.

José Antonio Kast's government held its first expanded political committee on Monday at La Moneda, where Segpres Minister José García announced urgencies for 20 bills, mainly on security and migration. Three initiatives received immediate discussion, including classifying irregular entry as a crime. The announcement comes amid internal criticisms over possible pardons and limits to free higher education.

Ten days have passed since José Antonio Kast assumed Chile's presidency, marked by high activity in security, economy, and education. The government has prioritized police actions, housing reconstruction, and fiscal adjustments. Key ministers lead coordinated initiatives under a 'Hub' model.

The Chilean executive presented to the Chamber's Security Commission a proposal to cut $72.669 billion from the Ministry of Security's budget, meeting Hacienda's 3% requirement. The measure mainly affects Carabineros and PDI, drawing cross-party criticism in Congress for inconsistency with the 'emergency government' narrative. Officials assure it won't impact sensitive areas.

The Partido de la Gente announced on Wednesday that its agreement with the government to back the megareform bill has collapsed, accusing the administration of failing to include middle-class benefits such as VAT refunds on medicines and diapers. The decision marks a sharp turn after weeks of talks and internal divisions within the party.
