President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed former Philippine National Police chief Nicolas Torre III as the new general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

MANILA, Philippines — Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that President Marcos has appointed Nicolas Torre III, former chief of the Philippine National Police, as general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The appointment underscores the administration's trust in Torre's extensive experience in public service and law enforcement.

In a statement, the MMDA expressed full support for the President's decision. “The MMDA expresses its full support to the decision of President Marcos Jr. in his trust for Gen. Torre, whose extensive experience in public service and law enforcement is expected to further strengthen the MMDA’s mandate in traffic management and public safety, among others, across Metro Manila,” the agency said.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes described Torre as a “welcome addition” that would be a “big help” to the agency. The MMDA vowed to “remain committed to continuing its mission of ensuring safe, efficient and orderly mobility and development in Metro Manila with the appointment of General Torre.”

The move is anticipated to enhance the MMDA's operations amid ongoing challenges in traffic and urban development in the capital region.
