Phillies acquire Derek Hill from White Sox

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired center fielder Derek Hill and international bonus money from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. They sent outfield prospect Dylan Campbell and infield prospect José Colmenares to Chicago in return.

The trade addressed the Phillies' thin outfield depth following an injury to Adolis García. García hurt his right shoulder on a throw Wednesday night in Toronto and was scheduled for imaging on Thursday with results expected Friday.

Hill, 30, hit .213 with four home runs and eight RBIs in 50 games for the White Sox this season. He posted stronger numbers against left-handed pitching, batting .245 with a .789 OPS.

To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Phillies designated right-handed pitcher Jackson Rutledge for assignment. Interim manager Don Mattingly said the team hopes for the best regarding García's injury.
