Tesla plans bolt fix for Cybertruck light bar recall

Tesla has developed a new method to secure the Cybertruck's optional off-road light bar using bolts, addressing a recall of over 6,000 vehicles where adhesive failed. The issue led to light bars detaching while driving, prompting 619 warranty claims. Owners will receive notifications by December 26, with repairs starting in early 2026.

Tesla recalled 6,197 Cybertrucks last month due to the optional LED light bar being held solely with strong adhesive, which proved unreliable. The problem arose from issues with the adhesive primers used during installation, causing several light bars to separate from vehicles on the road. To date, the company has recorded 619 warranty claims related to this failure.

The fix involves a new steel bracket that attaches to both sides of the light bar. This bracket slides between the Cybertruck's stainless steel window frames and includes a small attachment bolted directly into the vehicle's roof, replacing the adhesive entirely.

Although the solution is ready, Tesla is not yet scheduling repairs. According to the recall bulletin, owners will be formally notified on or before December 26, meaning service appointments are likely to begin in early 2026. In the interim, owners are advised to limit driving or use temporary measures like duct tape to secure the light bar.

This issue dates back to the Cybertruck's launch in late 2023. Foundation Series buyers, who paid extra, expected the light bar as standard but received most vehicles without it due to production delays. By August, frustration led one owner to sue Tesla in California over the missing accessory.
