Three weather systems to bring rains across much of the country

Most parts of the Philippines may face rainy weather this week due to three weather systems, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The easterlies will dominate weather in several areas, while extreme northern Luzon and southern Mindanao will be influenced by the northeast monsoon and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), PAGASA stated.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms from the easterlies are forecast for Bicol and Eastern Visayas, as well as the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Capiz, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. Batanes will see cloudy and rainy conditions due to the northeast monsoon.

Fair weather with possible rainshowers or thunderstorms from the ITCZ is expected in SOCCSKSARGEN and BARMM regions, along with Sulu and Davao Occidental. Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience similar effects from the easterlies.

PAGASA has not detected any low-pressure area within the Philippine area of responsibility. Moderate to strong winds and coastal waters are projected for northern and eastern Luzon, with light to moderate conditions elsewhere in the country.

Tropical Depression Wilma is nearing Eastern Visayas, raising risks of floods and landslides from heavy rain. PAGASA forecasts possible landfall between Friday evening and Saturday morning. Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over more than 20 areas.

In a continuation of recent forecasts, the northeast monsoon and easterlies are bringing light rains across the Philippines, with cloudy skies and isolated showers in various regions, PAGASA reported on Dec. 25. No major impacts are expected, though thunderstorms warrant caution.

Several parts of the country can expect rainy weather to kick off the New Year, according to PAGASA on January 1. The Northeast Monsoon is affecting northern and central Luzon, while a shear line is bringing rain to MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Quezon.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts cloudy to rainy weather across most of Indonesia this Sunday. In Jakarta, overcast conditions will dominate from morning to afternoon, with light rain possible in the south during the evening. The DKI Jakarta government is preparing for coastal flooding until January 7 with various preventive measures.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remains in effect over four provinces in Luzon as Tropical Storm Ada continues to bring gale-force winds and stormy weather over much of the Bicol Region, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday.

A low pressure area within the Philippine Area of Responsibility has developed into Tropical Depression Ada at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, marking the country's first tropical cyclone of the year. PAGASA reports it is located 635 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, and is expected to intensify into a tropical storm within 24 hours.
