Kenyan authors call for government action on book piracy

Stakeholders in Kenya's publishing sector have urged the government to strengthen laws against book piracy to protect authors and the literature industry.

The Kenya Publishers Association said illegal publishing causes losses exceeding three billion shillings each year.

The stakeholders spoke during the second TBC Penmanship Awards held at Jain Bhavan Auditorium in Loresho, Nairobi.

Text Book Centre chief executive Sachin Varma said the awards give emerging writers a platform to showcase their talent.

Among the winners were Janet Mbugua for My First Time, Dr Anuradha Khoda for Noah and the Rainbow Promise Series 2 and Jackson Biko for Big Little Fights.
