Ethiopia expands over 9,000 km of electricity distribution lines

Ethiopian Electric Service has expanded more than 9,000 km of new distribution lines over the past nine months.

Addis Ababa, Miyazya 29, 2018 (FMC). Over the period, 3,518 km of medium-voltage lines and 6,069 km of low-voltage lines were installed. In addition, 3,683 new distribution transformers of various capacities were placed.

The service conducted preventive inspections covering 62,274 km of medium-voltage lines and 67,131 transformers to improve existing infrastructure. Corrective actions addressed 92 percent of identified causes of power interruptions on the distribution network and 86 percent of issues with transformers.

A further 3,099 km of medium- and low-voltage lines underwent reconstruction. Capacity upgrades were completed on 1,579 existing distribution transformers.
