The Excise department arrested a West Bengal native with over one kilogram of suspected cannabis in Kochi while he allegedly used the dead drop method to deliver narcotics. The arrest occurred on July 14 as part of a crackdown on this trafficking technique.
The Excise special squad led by Circle Inspector Ranjith Kumar detained Shah Rukh Khan in a residential area at Chakkaraparambu near Vyttila. He was arrested while dropping a parcel containing 1.058 kg of suspected cannabis near a house number board.
The department described the dead drop method in which peddlers receive advance digital payments and leave narcotics at locations such as metro pillars or isolated electric poles. They then send photographs or videos of the sites to buyers for collection.
Officials noted prior seizures including 22 kg of suspected ganja from an accused known as Psycho Sabu at Vallarpadam and 18 kg from Selvaraj a Tamil Nadu native near railway tracks.
