Julian Gerighty leaves Ubisoft for Battlefield Studios

Julian Gerighty, executive producer on Tom Clancy's The Division franchise, has departed Ubisoft after nearly 27 years to join Battlefield Studios. Massive Entertainment announced the move, reassuring fans that development on upcoming Division titles continues uninterrupted. The news follows rumors denied just months ago and comes amid recent studio changes at Ubisoft.

Julian Gerighty's departure from Ubisoft was confirmed on January 16, 2026, by Massive Entertainment, the studio behind the Tom Clancy's The Division series. In a social media post, Massive bid farewell to Gerighty, stating: "Today we want to share that Julian Gerighty, executive producer on the Tom Clancy's The Division franchise is heading off on to a new adventure at Battlefield Studios. While we will miss him, his mark will live on at Massive and we'll continue to bring the world he's been part of creating to our players for years to come."

The studio emphasized continuity, noting: "Our teams who built this world with Julian are still here, carrying it forward with ambitious, unchanged commitment for the future with The Division 2, The Division 2: Survivors, The Division Resurgence and The Division 3."

Gerighty, who had been with Ubisoft for almost 27 years, shared his own update: "It's time for me to hang up my go bag (keeping the watch) as I go on another grand adventure. The Division future burns bright, and I can't wait for you to discover what the teams have been working on. Long live The Division."

Rumors of his exit surfaced in mid-October 2025 after changes to his LinkedIn profile, prompting Massive to deny them swiftly. The studio then affirmed: "Julian is still with us as Executive Producer for The Division franchise, leading the creative vision for TCTD2, Resurgence, Survivors, and TCTD3. We can’t wait to share what’s ahead."

The announcement arrives just one week after Gerighty's interview during the New Game+ showcase, where he described The Division 3 as "a monster" poised to have "as big of an impact as The Division 1." No successor has been named for his role, though Magnus Jansén was appointed creative director for The Division 2: Survivors in August 2025.

This development coincides with other Ubisoft news, including a Realism Mode for The Division 2 launching in March 2026 and layoffs affecting 55 employees at Massive and Ubisoft Stockholm. Marketing for a potential "The Division: Definitive Edition" has also appeared in Japan.
