North Korea tests tactical missiles as US reaffirms ally defense

North Korea tested tactical ballistic missiles, multiple rocket launchers and cruise missiles on Tuesday under Kim Jong-un's supervision. The US Indo-Pacific Command reaffirmed its defense commitment to regional allies hours later.

The Korean Central News Agency reported Wednesday that North Korea tested a newly developed lightweight multipurpose missile launching system and multiple tactical cruise missiles. The launches took place from the Jongju area in North Phyongan Province toward the Yellow Sea.

Kim Jong-un expressed great satisfaction with the results. He noted that the tactical cruise missile, which combines terrain-mapping and AI-guided systems for precision strikes within 100 kilometers, will be deployed to long-range artillery units near the southern border.

The US Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement that it is aware of the launches and consulting closely with allies. It added that the event poses no immediate threat to US personnel or territory, and reaffirmed America's commitment to the defense of the homeland and regional allies.
