A UNESCO advisory panel has recommended adding the Asuka-Fujiwara archaeological sites in western Japan to the World Cultural Heritage List.
The recommendation was issued on June 6, 2026. The sites are located in the Nara region and represent ancient capitals. The panel's decision follows evaluations of the archaeological value of the locations. If approved, the sites would gain international recognition under UNESCO guidelines.
The Uttar Pradesh government has added 39 sites, from settlement mounds dating to 1,000 BC and Kushan-era remains to colonial buildings, to its list of state-protected monuments. The Archaeological Advisory Committee approved the inclusion in a recent review meeting. Officials emphasized developing a 'Kushan trail' across the state.
