ユネスコは日曜日、奈良県の古代遺跡群を世界遺産に登録した。日本にとって27件目の登録となる。
決定は、韓国・釜山で開催されたユネスコ世界遺産委員会の会合で行われた。遺跡群は「飛鳥・藤原：古代の都と関連資産群」と呼ばれ、6世紀後半から8世紀初頭にかけての19の考古遺跡を含む。
これらの遺跡は、中国や朝鮮半島との交流を背景とした中央集権国家の形成過程を示すものとして評価された。主要な場所には飛鳥宮跡、藤原宮跡、仏教寺院跡、高松塚古墳、キトラ古墳が含まれる。
ユネスコの諮問機関は6月にこれらの遺跡の世界文化遺産への追加を推奨していた。登録により、日本は22件の文化遺産と5件の自然遺産を保有することになった。
